Inspired by both Thoreau and Mr. Blandings, author Michael Pollan called the little cabin that he built with his own hands a “shelter for daydreams”. In his book A Place of My Own he succeeds in conveying the history and meaning of all human building, it also marks the connections between our bodies, our minds, and the natural world.
For those of us who will never build our own little cabin we now have a wonderful alternative for the backyard or bush setting.
Noek Witzand’s Natural Cabins
These Natural Cabins are a testament to Noek’s three passions: the power of design, the beauty of the natural world and how both enhance ones well-being.
“At the age of 20, I left my life in Holland behind for a two-day sailing journey to Bergen, Norway. Months of walking solo along lonesome tracks through extreme temperatures resulted in my awareness of, and being at one with nature. White noise gradually faded, allowing for insights and conversations (aloud) interviewing myself about meaning and purpose. With a profound appreciation of natural beauty, I realized I had a potential to design, using nature as my point of inspiration. I made the commitment to learn a variety of basic trades to give me the skills from which to apply my heartfelt principal”

Is council permission required?
In many circumstances a Council application may not be required when using a private Certifier to issue a Complying DevelopmentCertificate (CDC) if all building conditions are met. In some circumstances a Development Approval (DA) with your local Council may be needed due to site specific restrictions. NoekDesign can arrange all appropriate paperwork towards any approval.
